Sharp FP-P35CX Air Purifier Review

This product arrived at my door on time and in the exact condition the seller specified. It is working as described, is quiet and does not take up much room. The only thing I wish it had was the instruction booklet, but that was not necessary in learning how to operate the unit, as it is pretty self explanatory.

Decent air purifier - Pam - NY, USA
The Sharp FP35 does a decent job of removing pollutants in a smaller sized bedroom but based upon testing I would recommend on of their larger units for better performance in pollen and dust removal. The air purifier is simple to operate and fairly quiet for a HEPA type system. This is not one of the better units as reviewed by the independent testing magazines. Perfec for the bedrooms. I can't even hear it working on low, but air feels fresh and gives you good night sleep. Allergy and stuffed nose gone in one night. Will highly recommend this air purifier for master bedroom or bonus room.

Germ Guardian Manual Ultrasonic Humidifier Review

I bought this humidifier on Dec 1st. I wanted to use it for a while before doing a review. I swear I have no connection to the company that makes this or any retailer. My glowing review is simply because it has turned out to be an excellent buy.

Note, I see that the reviews so far for the digital model of this humidifier are not good. Apparently the humidity sensor? isn't working properly. My unit is the manual one, does not have any sensor. I stand by my review of this unit only. Sorry this is so long.

I have purchased and used a number of other small humidifiers over the years because I suffer from significant RA dryness symptoms. I have to say that this is the best humidifier I have ever had, bar none. I use this in my bedroom at night and my dry eye and skin problems lessened immediately upon first use and the benefit continues through an unusually cold winter. I also notice that I have been sleeping much better!

Besides the health benefits, another big plus is the almost silent operation. Each of the other units I had made loud misting noises and even worse, produced a persistent metallic pinging noise. Some caused chest congestion. I have had only very minimal temporary chest congestion with this and that may have been due to other things than this unit.

I have not used the warm water setting since that would make my room warmer than I like.

PROS:
Almost silent.
Simple to use: no complicated bits to micro-mist the water. Very well made. The cover doors to the compartments on each side are precisely fitted. The tank lid is water tight but still easy to unscrew. Simple parts fit together easily and are easy to clean.
Light weight.
Simple carry handle on tank works well.
Excellent humidity level even at below medium setting with no noticeable residue or dampness to any nearby surfaces.
Needs weekly drain and wash as indicated in instructions; a check of the small metal ionizing(?) plate and that's it. I do have municipal water. Well water would probably require more cleaning.
The anti-microbial feature was a selling point. I have no way to know if it's working, but the unit does seem to stay much cleaner than previously owned units.
I fill the tank about half full and that lasts me for almost a week.
There is no leakage whatsoever.
I like the units' sort-of art deco style a lot. All the other units I've owned were stodgy and unimaginative. This one reminds me of an old radio.

CONS:
The bright blue lights. I taped a piece of cardboard over so I can see just enough of the low-water light. I also placed the unit across the room because of the light problem. (Are engineers sparkly light fetishists? Many small appliances have these light problems. ;))
Price is high, but well worth it for the benefits in my opinion.

The tiny metal plate in the base below the spray tower appears to be rusty and has left a rusty residue on a q-tip. I don't know if this is from rust or water deposits. This plate cannot be removed or even looked at closely so I don't know if this is a problem or not. Doesn't appear to affect use at this time.

The manual was rather poorly written. There were parts mentioned that were not illustrated. I owned it for a month before I found where the cleaning brush was. Note, there are compartments with removable lids on either side of the unit under the water tank.
Doesn't hold all that much water for anyone wanting to leave it on all the time at a high setting.
Have to take a little care when removing tank not to spill any accumulated water from inside main unit or pull the tower misting part out with it. Not a big deal.
Does *require* cleaning at least once a week, especially around the metal plate or it won't mist.
Tank is a little unwieldy when upside down to fill. It does not sit flat due to built-in handle. Have to finagle getting it under the tap. Sometimes water gets into bottom sections and has to be carefully poured out or soaked up after lid is back on or you'll end up with water on the floor when you turn it over. Again, not significant.

I purchased 2 Germ Guardian H2000 units in 2008 and was initially quite pleased with their performance. After 1 month, the LED lights failed on 1 unit. The unit was replaced eventually after several failed calls to customer service. The replaced unit's lights eventually failed as did the second units LED's (?design flaw). Eventually the second unit failed completely after 16 months, and I have been unsuccessful in reaching customer service for 3 weeks, after multiple calls and leaving several messages.

After using it for about 4-5 months, the inside of the water tank started molding. First thing, their customer service stinks. It usually goes into a prompt telling you to leave a message, so I did and waited for 2 weeks and no one called. I kept calling and I finally got through. I wanted them to replace just the plastic water tank but they insisted that it is very usual for it to mold and suggested that I clean it out using water and vinegar. Disappointed that they won't stand by their product, I had no choice to try it but with no luck. I must have cleaned and rinsed it more 1o times and it simply will not come off.

I'm not taking any chances using a humidifier with mold inside the water tank, so I'm throwing it away and never buying any products from them again.

I give this ZERO stars but it seems that that was not an option so I had to choose at least one star.

In addition to doing a good job cleaning the air, I also was looking for a purifier that would be very quiet. This Rabbit Air is really quiet. I don't have a way to measure air quality, but the air sure smells cleaner. I noticed a few times when I broil something the air quality light will change indicating the air needs further cleaning; so I guess that is a good sign.

The unit looks very well made and is very stylish.

So far as cost, I would rank it very good. The initial cost of the unit and replacement filters is very reasonable.

I called their support line with some questions and they were very helpful. They answered the call right away (no holding).

The coverage is rated at 700 sq ft, but I have read that if you have allergies you should cut that number in half.

Six-Stage Filtration
One of the most innovative features of the MinusA2 is that it is entirely customizable. Rabbit air purifier is very sleek and seems to work great. Whenever I smoke, the light sensor changes color to red (poor air quality) and starts working hard. After little while, the light changes and the fan slows down. Air quality improvement is undeniable. It is slgihtly bigger and noiser than I expected.

Highly recommended for smokers.

I loved the first one so much I bought two more. Need I say more?

I have one of these units in my home office, where laser toner dust, paper dust, cat and dog hair and other 'pollutants' make the air pretty nasty. Now that I have this unit in the office, those problems are GONE. I leave it running on Silent during office hours (and it really is virtually silent), and I set it to Turbo when I leave the office. The air stays fresh all day, and in the mornings the office smells like mountain air. I look forward to coming into the office now.

I've had other air cleaners in the past, electrostatic and HEPA, but they didn't come close to freshening the air like this one does.

Highly recommended.

We primarily run this during May/June when we seem to have the most problems with Allergies. By running it in our bedroom it seems to help and let us get a better night of rest. The mood lighting setup is a bit annoying, but hasn't bothered us too much. The nice feature is the automatic setting that let's the unit vary the running speed based on conditions in the room. Overall a very quiet unit which makes it great for the bedroom. I would recommend this to others and am considering getting a second unit.

Emerson Police Knife Review

The Emerson Police fixed blade knife is made to stand up to the rigors of daily law enforcement and emergency use. Praised by police officers around the world for it's rugged design and dependability, I decided that it was time to get one of my own. Here are my thoughts:

What I like about the knife:

1. The 3.60 inch blade is long enough to give you massive cutting power, but small enough to be legally carried almost anywhere. It is well balanced and feels very natural in your hand.

2. Crafted from 154 CM steel, my blade was razor sharp right out of the box and continues to hold a great edge after many uses. The V ground blade (similar to hollow grind) is very strong and helps the knife to get sharp and stay sharp.

3. The jimping or thumb grooves on the back of the blade give you added cutting power, especially when you need to make precise cuts, or tear through something quickly (such as a seatbelt).

4. Emerson uses a black powder coat on their Polices knives, which serves as an anti-reflectant and anti-rust feature.

5. You have the option of either plain or half-serrated edge when you buy the Emerson Police knife. The serrations come in handy during an emergency situation and when its not necessary to make a "pretty" cut.

What I didn't like:

I have no complaints about the Police knife. It is quickly becoming one of my favorite fixed blade knives on the planet.

Overall:

With a suggested retail value of $239.95, the Emerson Police knife is well worth every penny. If you need a knife that is dependable when seconds count, go with the Emerson Police knife.

Mobility Scooter Safety

Electric scooters are, in most cases, used by individuals who are not able to easily walk around. These might be people who are sufferers of arthritis or other joint related problems, but they are generally only able to walk, without difficulty, for short distances. Some scooters are able to travel more than ten miles an hour, so it is important to turn with care. If you feel the scooter begin to become unsteady or tip while you are turning, slow down and try to decrease the degree of your turn. It is also important to keep your body centered on the scooter and not to lean too far in either direction.

Driving Around Cars

It is generally not advisable and in some places illegal to drive a mobility scooter on a regular road. However, from time to time, such as when crossing the street, so it is important to be extremely careful. Never assume that someone in a car will stop or that they have seen you. Since a scooter sits low to the ground, they can be difficult to spot, so always make sure you watch out for cars instead of relying on the cars to watch out for you.

If you do a lot of driving around your neighborhood, it is a good idea to purchase a visibility flag, which sticks about six feet up in the air and makes it much easier for others to see you. These are also great for areas that are very crowded, like Disney Land. Most scooters also come with running lights and blinkers, so you should take advantage of these when in close proximity to cars.

Driving Around People

With a top speed over ten miles an hour, many scooters are able to move much faster than your average person can walk or even run. When driving around places that other people are using, such as on the sidewalk or around a mall, it is important that you take care not to run into them. You should be especially wary of young children, because their movements can be very hard to predict.

It is also important that you do not follow people too closely. You do not want to risk running into them if they stop quickly.

Mobility scooters are very safe, but like any vehicle, they must be operated responsibly. Doing so will keep you and those around you safe.

The Toy That The Flat Earth Society Banned

There are probably as many types of ball as there are children in the world, and as many different variations on each type again. From the small bouncy balls to the hard plastic aero balls right up to proper footballs, there really is a type to suit every child, and at every stage. A ball, it would normally seem, is an essential toy for any child to have, at any age. But why is this so, and what type of balls prove to be more suited to each age group?

From being a baby, a child can usually learn to hold a ball. The rounded shape allows them to hold it quite easily, since pressing it between their hands usually is all that is required. As it has no corners or sharp bits it is also superbly safe. Small babies will usually try to suck or eat the ball, and to no small extent this is probably an instinctive response related to breastfeeding. A ball is therefore familiar and reassuring to even a small child.

Of course, as a child grows older, they will need a ball that they can learn to manipulate with their hands, and ones which are fairly small, about tennis ball sized at most, and smooth are most suited. Tennis balls have fluff which is not advisable for them to get in their mouths, quite apart from being fairly unpleasant on the tongue. However, once a child becomes a toddler, throwing a ball becomes a prime activity. At this stage, a light plastic ball is best as they can easily throw this a fair distance, but it is unlikely to do much harm in the house, or to hurt anyone it strikes. Very light plastic tends not to travel very far either.

After throwing comes kicking, and a light football is ideal, giving the child plenty of surface area to strike, and more chance at success. Once the child can throw and kick, they will be anxious to start catching. This is quite possibly the hardest skill of all to learn, and will require something fairly large, but light. Although a football is a good size, since there is a very frequent chance of it hitting the child in the face, a better alternative is a light beach ball or other inflatable ball. This helps them to grasp the ball, and not be hurt if it hits them. It will also move slower through the air, and be easier. Of course, even easier still is to use a balloon, since this will be harmless if it hits them, easy to catch, and will move slow enough for them to predict. Moving from a balloon to a beach ball, to a football, and then back down the scale to smaller balls like tennis balls will help to steadily increase the skill level required.

Although small rubber bouncy balls are fun, they do require a high level of skill to control, can be quite dangerous near delicate objects or windows, and are often easy to bit and swallow parts of. Therefore these are not recommended until the child has mastered the previous stage completely, as they will by this time be competent and reliable and able to understand the safety implications.

Labrador Grooming - Trimming Your Labrador Retriever's Nails

Regular nail trimming is important to your Labrador Retriever's health and well being. Nails that are not properly clipped can crack and split, which can lead to infection in that area. Long nails can be uncomfortable for your Labrador and for an owner's leg. A regular trimming, at least once a week or every two weeks,will save both you and your Labrador Retriever a lot of pain and aggravation.

Purchase a good quality nail clipper, one that is appropriate for your Labradors claws. You might also want to purchase a clotting agent, such as Kwik-Stop, or a styptic pen. It is not unusual for people to clip a toenail short and for bleeding to occur.

Start by having your Lab lie down or secure him with his collar and leash.

What you are looking for is called the quick (pink part of the nail), which is the live tissue inside the nail. This will be easer to see in yellow nails than dark ones. Here's a tip, shining a flashlight through the back of the nail will help you locate the quirk. You want to cut back to the beginning of the quick. Cutting the quick will cause some bleeding, which happens from time to time.

Black nails can be a little more difficult to locate the quick.If you turn your Labs paw over and look closely you will see a little round thick part on the bottom side of the nail, which is the quick.

When you're ready to cut, make sure you aren't on the quick, and make a smooth, quick squeeze with your clippers, letting the nail fall away. If you clip small, thin slices off of the nail tip, you will be able to see a small black or pink, moist looking disk in the center of the cut nail. This disk is the start of your quick, and this is as far as you should trim. Some people do cut the nail back until a slight amount of bleeding occurs, in an attempt to shorten the nail further. However it's not advisable as it can make for an unpleasant experience for your Labrador.

Continue clipping until all of your Lab's paws are complete and then you can file down the sharp edges, or just let your Labrador wear the edges smooth.

Every now and then you might hit the quick when trimming. Don't panic, just blot with a towel and apply your Kwik-Stop, or styptic pen and this should stop the bleeding after a few minutes.

Follow the above steps and in no time you will be clipping your Labs nails just like the professionals.

I've been using Aireox air cleaners in my home and cars for about 16 years and wouldn't buy any other kind. I have severe chemical sensitivity (from an on the job incident) and they do the job for me. They are simple, easy to clean (open, vacuum the outside of the filter, replace), and quiet. Buy a new filter to replace the one inside it when you can again smell stuff that it didn't clean out of the air (about 1 year). I run mine 24/7 on low and have for 16 years straight.

The only problem that some of my older ones have had is with the switch (max setting didn't work after a while). My newest one, just purchased from Amazon, does not have that problem. It wouldn't bother me if it did because these air cleaners are the best in any case. Cleans everything out of the air (formaldehyde, mold, gasses, smoke, etc.). During the horrible fires in California a while back, I just ran my Aireox and kept the windows closed and had clean air in the house.

I highly recommend these air purifiers. I own three at home, one for my husband's office, and one for the car. The newest one replaces a 16 year old one which finally bit the big one. All my others are old and working just fine.

I bought this two months ago to replace an old Kenmore and am very impressed with it. I use it in a 40 foot motorhome and it keeps the humidity level below 50% throughout the coach. It's also very quiet, to the point of not knowing it's on unless you're close by. It's also CFC-free and energy-saver, running around 350 watts instead of the old Kenmore's 700 watts. Since I live in a wet climate, I am considering buying their smaller one for the car. I definitely recommend this air purifier!

I've had my Aireox 45 for 5 years and I love it. It works so well that friends with cat allergies can spend time in my apartment with no problems. The filters are not too expensive, since you only replace once a year and it is a medical grade air cleaner, not like the ionic breeze or other such phoney unit. I recommend it!

When you live with carpeting, like we do, dust is your enemy. You don't tend to notice it in the air unless you happen to catch the sunlight just right. Some carpet material is better than others as far as dust, yet air pollution is a major concern everywhere.

Add to that our body becoming more allergic to dust and air pollution as we age and we really should consider a good air cleaner as a standard home appliance these days.

We have used three different types of air cleaners and this Sharp is BY FAR the best. Not only does it do it's job of cleaning the air of dust and pollen, but it does it quietly. We've had this excellent machine running constantly in our bedroom since we got it almost two years ago.

I put it on auto mode and it just takes care of it's business without the usual fan noise most others seem to need to work. If the sensor detects a certain level of dust in the air it will increase the fan automatically until the dust level is reduced then returns to quiet mode.

In the spring, I change to the Pollen mode and that reduces the pollen as well as the dust.

Never have to concern ourselves with turning on and off, just leave it on auto or pollen mode.

Before this I used to wake up in the morning with a layer of caked dust in my mouth - otherwise known as dry mouth. It was a morning challenge cleaning this mess out of my mouth and throat. Now, I brush, gargle and am down the road in no time.

A truly superior home appliance we will not live without.

An amazing piece of hardware. Dead quiet and totally automatic, the remote control isn't really needed. Set the machine on Auto and the plasma clusters turn on if the air has been deemed to be unclean. After a few minutes, it reverts back to a low clean level rest phase totally automatically. Set it and forget it.

It is now one year since I bought this for my mom - she loves it and says it does a great job, but for me, I wouldve bought something else had I known about Sharp's business practices.

I went looking for replacement filters today. The product description says no filters need be replaced for at least 2 years, but the "change filter" light for the non-washable filters came on and stayed on at 6 months (she has no pets either)

About the only place to get replacement filters is from Sharp's website at full retail price and they want 0 for the hepa filter which is over a third of the price of the unit (thats 0/year folks)

I just went and bought the hepa and charcoal filters from Sharp (as I had no choice) and they require shipping costs of .75 for the charcoal filter and a separate .25 shipping charge for the hepa filter even though I am ordering them together.

So yes, if you dont mind getting royally reamed for the accessories, go ahead and purchase this. I am sure that products exist that do as good a job cleaning the air that have a must lower cost of ownership - If I were you I'd buy one of those.
