My Review of the Cold Steel Roach Belly Knife

Now you can have the famous Cold Steel quality at a fraction of the cost.

In 2007, Cold Steel introduced the Roach Belly knife which has a suggested retail value of $18.99. Many knife enthusiasts began to wonder if they abandoned their standard of high quality in the name of affordability.

I would like to give you my honest review and thoughts on this knife.

What I like about the Roach Belly:

1. The blade has surprisingly good edge retention. For $18 you might not expect much in terms of sharpness, but my blade came hair shaving sharp right out of the box.

Cold Steel uses Krupp 4116 stainless steel, which originated in Germany as surgical steel. You won't need to worry about this blade rusting or corroding on you.

2. The "jimping" or thumb grooves on the spine help you to make precise cuts very comfortably.

3. This knife uses a super tough polypropylene handle, which feels great in your hand and will hold up even in the most extreme conditions.

4. The hollow ground blade style gives you lots of added sharpness and cutting power. It's shape makes it perfect for hunting, fishing or utility work.

What I didn't like:

The cordura sheath is pretty tough, but it doesn't hold the knife very tightly. You can put a custom sheath on the knife and make it even more impressive.

Overall:

The Cold Steel Roach Belly knife is an awesome deal for the money. It makes a great knife for almost any purpose and provides excellent sharpness and durability.
